Key Responsibilities

The Lead Optical Process Engineer will play a vital role within the product solutions development team, delivering engineering expertise to support product innovation, new product introduction (NPI), and the manufacturing of diverse optical product lines. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating closely with the optical product design and development teams to provide engineering solutions that facilitate new product development and subsequent manufacturing support.
  2. Engaging in research and development of new technologies related to optical processes.
  3. Managing project timelines to ensure milestones are met for various customer initiatives.
  4. Creating active alignment protocols for automated optical alignment systems, addressing free space optics, grating, coupling, and fiber arrays.
  5. Diagnosing and resolving process performance issues.
  6. Offering technical mentorship to junior team members.
  7. Conducting thorough investigations into complex engineering challenges to establish new operational policies and capabilities.
  8. Assisting the Process Engineering team in fulfilling its objectives.
  9. Taking ownership of processes under your supervision.
  10. Contributing to the development of Process Assembly documentation.
  11. Conceptualizing tooling and fixtures.
  12. Validating new processes introduced into the workflow.
  13. Implementing and recommending engineering modifications.
  14. Researching and procuring new equipment to support evolving technologies.
  15. Supporting customer NPI builds within stringent timelines.
  16. Providing Design for Excellence (DFx) feedback to both internal design teams and external clients to enhance product manufacturability and improve yield and throughput.
Qualifications

A University degree in Engineering is required.

  1. A minimum of 8 years of experience in Process or Manufacturing Engineering.
  2. Proficiency in active optical alignment of free space optics.
  3. Experience with ficonTEC automated aligners is highly desirable.
  4. Familiarity with equipment programming and automation across various systems.
  5. A solid understanding of best practice process control methodologies.
  6. Knowledge of operational practices in an electronics assembly setting.
  7. Experience in implementing engineering changes.
  8. Ability to organize and structure documentation effectively.
  9. Experience with LabVIEW or similar motion control software is advantageous.
  10. Hands-on experience with delicate components is a plus.
  11. Familiarity with laser welding techniques is beneficial.
  12. Experience in establishing active alignment requirements and setting up engineering bench systems is a plus.
  13. Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks is advantageous.
  14. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
  15. Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a plus.
  16. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
