POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is based in Red Deer, AB.

Grounds Maintenance Role

Under supervision, the individual will be tasked with executing various aspects of grounds upkeep, including snow management. The role requires collaboration within a team setting as well as independent work, with potential responsibilities for overseeing seasonal interns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and care of gardens and turf, including irrigation
  • Pruning and trimming of shrubs and trees
  • Restoration of landscaped areas
  • Operation of equipment such as skid steers, small loaders, and ride-on mowers
  • Manual snow removal and sanding of walkways
  • Repair of potholes, grading of gravel lots, and maintenance of signage
  • Disposal and management of waste

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Horticulture or equivalent qualification in Landscape Gardening
  • 3-5 years of experience in grounds maintenance
  • Valid class 5 driver's license
  • In-depth knowledge of horticultural practices and a commitment to ongoing learning
  • Familiarity with snow removal techniques, including clearing, sanding, and hauling
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in operating various equipment, including mowers and utility vehicles
  • Physical capability to stand, kneel, and lift up to 25kg for extended periods
  • Willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain and slopes
  • Basic equipment maintenance skills, including lubrication and blade sharpening
  • Capacity to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Ability to follow instructions and make independent decisions
