POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is seeking an Intermediate/Senior Compression Project Engineer – Package. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design, development, and execution of Gas Compression and Refrigeration packages. Reporting to the Package Engineering Supervisor, the Compression Project Engineer will ensure the quality and integrity of product design, including the responsibility for stamping drawings when necessary. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive innovative design solutions, conduct thorough analyses to optimize package efficiency, and adhere to industry standards and regulatory guidelines. The candidate will manage and assist with all technical and manufacturing issues across multiple projects, providing engineering support to the Service department during equipment commissioning and start-up. Additionally, the role involves mentoring junior Engineers and Engineering Technologists, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering Department.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

PACKAGE ENGINEERING (Weighting 50%)
  • Package Design & Development: Responsible for completing additional compressor design tasks, including simulations for pipe sizing and equipment blow-down rates, scrubber sizing, and packaging with motor or engine drives.
  • Oversee the preparation of 3D models, general arrangement drawings, structural drawings, and spool drawings according to specifications and guidelines.
  • Organize and lead in-house 3D model review meetings with designers and manufacturing personnel, ensuring compliance with design review checklists.
Package Design Coordination
  • Draft P&IDs or assign tasks to designers, arrange and chair in-house P&ID review meetings, and coordinate revisions.
  • Assign or handle tasks related to PSVs and control valves.
  • Delegate or manage the Mechanical Engineer's work involving weight estimates and communication with third-party structural engineers.
  • Oversee the third-party Structural Engineer's work involving pressure vessel and heat exchanger design.
  • Collaborate with the Process Engineer to establish control philosophy and shutdown keys.
Packaging Material Selection & Evaluation
  • Create and submit Purchase Requisitions to the procurement team, obtaining comparative pricing for necessary equipment.
  • Ensure accurate creation of the Instrument Bill of Material (BOM) and compliance with material selection and certification requirements.
  • Review detailed technical drawings and specifications for various designs.
Technical Communication & Guidance
  • Provide technical insight for resolving design and fabrication challenges.
  • Supervise and guide Junior Project Engineers and Engineering Technologists.
  • Act as a Responsible Member for the company's Permit to Practice.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT & COLLABORATION (Weighting 35%)
  • Review customer specifications and assign technical spec reviews to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain project schedules and ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
  • Define and document project change orders and communicate them to the Project Manager.
Client Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Participate in client meetings and technical presentations.
QUALITY CONTROL & DOCUMENTATION COMPLIANCE (Weighting 20%)
  • Ensure quality and integrity of product design, including stamping required drawings.
  • Validate the sizing of major equipment from a Process Design perspective.
  • Supervise third-party Engineering providers and review their work.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (Weighting 5%)
  • Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into current engineering efforts.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements in packaging design and technology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng) is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in compression and refrigeration packaging/manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering jurisdictions and codes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
