Position Overview

Personal Support Worker (Permanent Evening Shift - 14:00 to 22:00)

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) plays a crucial role in providing personal assistance to patients, aiding them in daily activities and personal hygiene while addressing their physical, social, and emotional needs. This role adheres to the organization's resident-centered philosophy, relevant governmental standards, and the rights of residents. The PSW will also provide compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families, creating a safe and homely environment. Given the unique nature of hospice care, the PSW is encouraged to engage with patients beyond routine care, allowing them and their families to share their stories and experiences.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Personal Support Worker program in Ontario or equivalent.
  • Experience in a palliative care environment is advantageous.
  • Current CPR certification (obtained within the last year).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer usage.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Fluency in Chinese and other languages is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance.

Working Conditions

  • Significant standing, walking, lifting, and bending required.
  • Regular interaction with residents, exposing the PSW to all aspects of resident care.
  • Ability to work permanent evening shifts (14:00 to 22:00), including weekends and occasional short shifts. Flexibility to work alternate shifts as needed for operational requirements.
