Position Overview

CPP Investments is in search of a Director of Retirement and Benefits who is a driven and strategic leader. Reporting to the Managing Director of Total Rewards, this role will be crucial in designing, executing, and overseeing retirement and benefits initiatives that enhance employee welfare, align with our global objectives, and adhere to local regulations.

As the principal advisor on all matters related to retirement and benefits, you will assist the Talent team in achieving our defined business strategies and goals.

Based in Toronto, you will manage programs across our global offices and collaborate with other Talent centers of excellence and Talent Business Partners to fulfill your responsibilities. You will also lead a team of retirement and benefits specialists, providing guidance and mentorship while fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

The ideal candidate will possess strong judgment and expertise in complex Retirement and Benefits matters, along with strategic insights into employee well-being. You will have a creative and practical approach to HR, with experience in shaping benefits, retirement, and well-being programs through data-driven insights. A proven track record in program management within a knowledge-based industry and fast-paced environments is essential. You will understand how rewards programs can provide a competitive edge in people-oriented businesses. You will proactively lead initiatives and changes throughout the organization and be an effective communicator who builds relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders. Collaboration with other teams and functions to deliver solutions aligned with your mandate and the broader organization is key.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure all Retirement and Benefits programs are aligned with the firm's Total Rewards strategy, focusing on the employee experience and utilizing data-driven insights to inform recommendations. Collaborate with relevant teams and business partners to identify and prioritize critical issues and opportunities for action through strategic reviews. Facilitate the execution of talent priorities in partnership with Talent Department centers of excellence and other areas within CPP Investments. Advise Senior Managing Directors and Managing Directors to enhance understanding of how benefits programs support employee well-being while maintaining local relevance and global alignment. Support the Talent Solutions and Services team in managing all aspects of benefits administration, including health and wellness, retirement, time-off, and employee assistance programs. Lead communication efforts regarding pension, savings, and benefits to ensure clarity and perceived value among employees. Ensure compliance of all benefits programs with current laws and regulations. Exemplify our Guiding Principles of integrity, partnership, and high performance.

Qualifications:

Proven experience in human resources, with substantial experience in a Benefits/Retirement leadership role, preferably within investment management, financial services, or professional services. Strong understanding of benefits programs, policies, procedures, and applicable legislation in multiple locations where we operate. Excellent advisory skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Demonstrated success in leading change initiatives and executing in complex environments. A collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively with business leaders. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proven capacity to manage both tactical and strategic challenges in a global context. Familiarity with HRIS and benefits administration systems.
