Position Overview
The City of Mississauga is seeking a dedicated professional to join our Transportation Planning team as a Project Leader. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of multi-modal transportation within the city, focusing on the development and execution of comprehensive transportation strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Manager of Transportation Planning to spearhead multi-modal transportation initiatives aligned with the City’s Transportation Master Plan.
- Conduct Corridor Transportation Master Plans and city-wide transportation studies, ensuring thorough area-specific reviews.
- Lead the formulation and assessment of city-wide transportation policies, supporting the Strategic and Official Plans through rigorous research and technical analysis.
- Devise funding strategies to facilitate the realization of significant transportation projects, working closely with various funding entities.
- Analyze best practices in transportation planning from local, national, and international perspectives to enhance the city’s transportation framework.
- Represent the department in inter-agency collaborations, engaging in public forums, delivering presentations, and addressing inquiries.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and briefing documents for senior city officials and council members regarding transportation planning issues.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the department’s objectives.
- A degree from an accredited university in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
- Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute or as a professional engineer.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Strong competencies in integrity, effective communication, continuous improvement, customer service, conflict resolution, project completion, and strategic thinking.
- Solid understanding of transportation planning theories, principles, and analytical techniques.
- Familiarity with related fields such as land use planning, environmental assessments, traffic, and transit operations is advantageous.
- Awareness of the transportation policy landscape at the provincial, regional, and municipal levels, including key trends affecting the city.
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate
Work Schedule: Standard 35-hour work week
