About the Role

The National Arts Centre is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Maintenance Worker - Janitorial and Trades to join our facilities team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a range of duties within janitorial, trades, and maintenance. This is a dynamic role that requires flexibility and adaptability, as you will be working on various projects and tasks as assigned by the Lead Hand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform janitorial duties, including washroom cleaning, recycling, and garbage disposal.
  • Operate walk-behind and ride-on machinery, scrubbers, and sweepers to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Dust and mop floors, and perform litter pick-up and removal.
  • Assist with other related activities as required, such as performing maintenance tasks and working alongside outside contractors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related janitorial experience using industrial vacuums, floor scrubbers, and operating carpet cleaners.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to push/pull carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours.
  • Ability to follow directions and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages (English/French) is an asset.
  • A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement.
