Job Summary

As a key member of the Waste Management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our dispatch and routing services. Your primary responsibility will be to communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and optimize routes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with routing specialists and route managers to optimize complex routes and ensure timely delivery of services
  • Dispatch drivers to calls based on customer needs, driver locations, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response
  • Field incoming calls and emails from customers, sales, and customer service departments, and manage requests for pick-up or container delivery
  • Initiate outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site to resolve pick-up and other issues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in service issues
  • Record and document information from drivers and distribute to appropriate departments
  • Communicate with maintenance shop personnel and serve as an emergency point of contact for down wires and other issues
  • Coordinate projects and tasks as necessary, and delegate work in the manager's absence
  • Serve as a point of escalation for other dispatchers in the department
  • Train new dispatchers and provide guidance and support as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of two years of previous dispatching experience required
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including proprietary Waste Management systems
