About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Pathology Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing Gross Room and Autopsy activities, working closely with pathologists and laboratory management to ensure accurate and timely diagnosis.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • A certification as a Pathology Assistant by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) or by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC)
  • A graduate degree in Pathology Assistant studies or a related field
  • Experience with Cerner LIS and Dragon software
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology
  • Excellent customer service, leadership, and technical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Competencies in other languages, particularly French
Key Responsibilities

As a Pathology Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing Gross Room and Autopsy activities, including procuring and dissecting tissues and organs
  • Assisting pathologists in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues
  • Providing expertise and support to Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) performing grossing
  • Supporting pathologists in performing autopsy prosection
