About the Opportunity

We are seeking a certified Pathology Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing Gross Room and Autopsy activities, working under the direction of the pathologist and laboratory management team. Your expertise will be essential in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues, evaluating gross pathologic features to assist in diagnosis.

You will provide support to Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) who are performing grossing, and may also assist the pathologist by performing autopsy prosection, procuring tissues and organs, and submitting them for pathological diagnosis.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Pathology Assistant who possesses the knowledge, technical abilities, and problem-solving skills to excel in this role. You will have a strong background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology, and be certified as a Pathology Assistant by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) or the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).

You will have excellent customer service skills, leadership skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will also have strong communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with colleagues and patients.

Hours and Compensation

This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. You will be required to work shift work, including weekends and holidays, and may be required to travel. The hourly rate for this position is $37.29 - $45.40.
