Pathology Assistant

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a certified Pathology Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will work closely with pathologists and medical laboratory technologists to provide expertise in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues and evaluate gross pathologic features to assist in diagnosis.
About YouWe are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional who possesses the knowledge, technical abilities, and problem-solving skills to perform Gross Room and Autopsy activities following procedures, processes, protocols, and policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology, as well as excellent customer service, leadership, and technical skills.
Responsibilities- Assist pathologists in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues and evaluate gross pathologic features to assist in diagnosis
- Provide expertise and support to medical laboratory technologists who are performing grossing
- Support pathologists by performing autopsy prosection, procuring appropriate tissues and organs, and dissecting tissues for pathological diagnosis
- Work independently and as part of a team to achieve laboratory goals and objectives
- Certified as a Pathology Assistant by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) or by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required
- Graduate of an approved MSc Pathologist Assistant program preferred
- Experience with Cerner LIS preferred
- Experience with Dragon, an asset
- Previous background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology
- Excellent customer service, leadership, and technical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $37.29 - $45.40, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, and a defined benefit pension plan.
