Laboratory Operations Supervisor

Job Title: Laboratory Operations Supervisor - Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to providing an enriching educational experience, and we are currently seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Laboratory Operations Supervisor within the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This role is essential for ensuring the effective management of our laboratory facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the organization and maintenance of undergraduate biology and chemistry laboratories and associated storage areas.
- Collaborating with faculty to facilitate student laboratory experiments in both biology and chemistry disciplines.
- Ensuring the secure storage of hazardous materials and the upkeep of laboratory safety equipment.
- Executing duties as the lab safety and chemical hygiene officer, which includes the management of Material Safety Data Sheets.
- Coordinating the procurement of supplies and equipment for the department and providing instruction in introductory Biology laboratory sections as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Demonstrated experience in the maintenance and setup of undergraduate teaching laboratories.
- Exceptional administrative and organizational capabilities.
- A strong commitment to the mission and strategic objectives of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master of Science degree or 18 graduate credit hours in Biology.
- Extensive experience in teaching and supervising undergraduate biology laboratory courses.
- Familiarity with effective communication and instructional methodologies.
