Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team in providing residential services to adults and children with developmental disabilities and autism. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and quality of life of our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support to assist clients with activities of daily living, such as personal care routines, social and recreational activities, and educational and vocational pursuits.
  • Participate in daily or discharge planning processes to ensure seamless transitions and continuity of care.
  • Deliver care and support in a holistic, person-centered, and community-focused manner.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, consistent, and predictable daily routine as outlined in the clinical plan or daily action plan.
  • Document and report client progress, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to organizational policies.
  • Promote and facilitate connections between clients and their families, friends, and community networks.
  • Explore and engage clients in recreational activities, addressing their physical, emotional, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual needs and interests.
  • Transport clients to activities and appointments using agency vehicles or support clients in using public transportation when identified as a goal.
  • Employ de-escalation techniques and low-arousal strategies in responding to situations where clients exhibit escalated or unsafe behavior.
  • Assist clients with managing their personal finances as outlined in their individual plan and organizational policies.
  • Monitor clients' health status and facilitate access to appropriate health services as required.
  • Perform delegated healthcare tasks in accordance with nurse-delivered training and delegations, such as medication administration and seizure management.

Requirements

  • Grade XII Diploma or GED required.
  • Completed Diploma, Certificate, or Degree in a related field (Disability and Community Support, Psychology, Counselling, ABI, etc.) preferred.
  • Health Care Aide certificate from an approved educational institution required.
  • Current certification in CPR and Emergency First Aid required.
  • Current Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) required.
  • Successful completion of St.Amant training requirements within prescribed time frames.
  • Valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver's License and Abstract in good standing required, Class 4 preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience providing residential and/or community support services to individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, Autism, Acquired Brain Injuries, or other neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Minimum of 1 year previous experience working with individuals presenting with aggressive and/or disruptive behaviors, and a demonstrated ability to assess safety risks and respond appropriately in challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of current trends in services for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the principles of a Person-Centered and Family-Centered approach to support and care planning.
  • Positive, energetic, and able to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
  • Possess the physical and emotional capacity to meet the demands of the job, including the ability to utilize physical interventions when required to maintain safety of individual supported, self, and team.
  • Ability to engage in self-reflection and be accountable for decisions and actions.
  • Acceptable Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, and Adult Abuse Registry Checks, submission of a satisfactory Driver's Abstract.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check. New hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks, including confirmation of immunization or immunity to specific communicable diseases. Successful applicants will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
