Position Overview
The Produce Department Manager is accountable for achieving the department's objectives and ensuring that the store's goals, as outlined by the Store Manager, are met or surpassed. This role involves the daily oversight of various departmental functions, including inventory management, merchandising, staffing schedules, and customer relations. All tasks must be executed in alignment with the principles of the Farm Boy Way.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold Farm Boy's vision of providing the finest fresh shopping experience. Collaborate with the Store Manager and Retail Specialist to implement strategies that effectively achieve financial targets. Foster team development through interviewing, training, performance reviews, coaching, and recognition, while maintaining confidentiality and trust. Communicate consistently and effectively to guide the team, including one-on-one coaching, team meetings, performance metrics, product knowledge, and adherence to corporate policies. Oversee retail operations and key deliverables such as inventory management, ordering, product maintenance, quality control, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll. Participate in store management coverage as needed, including opening and closing duties and serving as the emergency contact for the alarm system. Ensure compliance with Safe Food Handling regulations and Health and Safety policies. May be assigned additional related tasks on an as-needed basis.Qualifications:
Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with a focus on business, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant supervisory or management experience in a similar capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful completion of a Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve, and Level A First Aid and Basic CPR certification, or the willingness to obtain these within 6 months. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Clear and effective communication abilities, both written and verbal. Sound judgment and decision-making skills when interacting with customers and team members. Capability to learn and utilize both manual and automated systems/tools. Proficient in managing a fast-paced environment while prioritizing tasks and maintaining high performance standards. Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Fluency in English and French is considered an asset.Work Environment:
Provide service to multiple individuals or departments while managing various simultaneous deadlines. Required to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts. Must be able to lift, carry, or handle heavy items.Additional Information:
