About the Role:

The Autism Support Associate will play a crucial role in ensuring that the support provided to individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) meets their unique needs and enhances their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary liaison with family, medical, educational, and community contacts to ensure seamless support.
  • Provide coaching and support in areas such as social skills, communication, and leisure activities to promote independence and self-advocacy.
  • Identify and address barriers impacting the achievement of quality of life outcomes, ensuring that Personal Outcomes are met for each individual.
  • Administer medication as per established procedures.
  • Follow established Behavioural and Crisis Protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals supported.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, supports, and community members to foster a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to other employees to continuously improve the quality of service and work environment.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a recognized Community College or University, or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or a registered and Ministry-approved Private Career College, and 1 year of experience in a related field (preferably supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder); OR
  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 5 years of related experience (preferably supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder).
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Solid understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the unique support requirements of individuals with this diagnosis.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
Working Conditions:
  • Must have the ability to physically support adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Must have the ability to complete the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification and perform required physical techniques.
  • A valid Driver's License, with a minimum G2, and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
  • As a condition of employment, employees must be able to provide a Driver's Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points.
