Are you interested in contributing to a team that makes a significant impact? Become a part of our expanding ATS Automation Systems division, a publicly traded global leader with a rich history dedicated to advancing the future through comprehensive automation solutions. Within our Life Sciences Systems, our work is crucial – we custom design, construct, and maintain essential automated solutions for the medical device and pharmaceutical sectors. Our commitment is to assist our clients in enhancing the quality of life for individuals worldwide. When precision is paramount, and product failure is unacceptable, leading life sciences organizations rely on us to address their production challenges.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Field Service Representative (Vision) will be tasked with the design, development, troubleshooting, and documentation of complete machine vision solutions integrated within custom automation equipment. Proficiency in programming Vision Systems and troubleshooting applications is essential. Strong organizational skills and self-discipline are required, as the role involves working independently with minimal supervision. FSRs will alternate between service work and integration into our system build process, allowing them to gain in-depth knowledge of specific systems and become subject matter experts to support our clients throughout the lifecycle of their systems.

General Responsibilities:

• During integration into Systems build, you will be expected to perform all duties outlined in our Vision Systems Designer Job descriptions.

• Willingness to travel to client sites is essential.

• Typical travel is 50 to 60%, with potential for increased travel during service rotations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Vision Systems Design:

• Maintain comprehensive machine vision solutions in support of the ATS Cambridge division – Service Department. This encompasses all lighting, optics, cameras, frame-grabbers, processing algorithms, opto-mechanical fixtures, and material handling units.

• Understand performance requirements for machine vision systems in inspection, assembly, and functional process systems across various industries, including automotive, semiconductor, and pharmaceutical/medical.

• Conduct analysis and simulation of optical and lighting solutions.

• Determine opto-mechanical, electrical, and software interface requirements for the vision system to the machine.

• Document vision system requirements and specific design details by creating Requirement, Design, Verification, Validation, and Calibration Specifications.

• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software departments to ensure requirements are met.

• Develop and maintain image processing applications using commercial or proprietary vision software libraries, including application GUIs.

• Integrate and test vision system modules on machinery during integration and buyoff phases.

• Assess machine vision module capabilities using statistical and other industry-standard verification and validation techniques.

Service Representation:

• Identify high-risk areas and evaluate various approaches to mitigate risks, including quoting, designing, implementing, and conducting Proof of Principle or Engineering studies.

• Report and rectify abnormal equipment conditions and inaccurate actions by client personnel.

• Required to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.

• Ensure alignment of client objectives with on-site work plans.

• Support the development of operational and troubleshooting knowledge within the operations team.

• Review and suggest additional tools or equipment necessary for better operation or maintenance of client equipment.

• Recommend repairs or replacements only for items that require attention.

• Travel to both domestic and international client locations for long and short-term support.

• Lead on-site teams and liaise with clients and ATS Project Managers.

• Coordinate with third-party vendors and assist in resolving technical issues as needed.

• Complete detailed Service Reports for services provided on a daily/weekly basis. Ensure client issues are resolved through follow-up communication and project/case closure if necessary.

• Be available for on-call duties on a rotational basis.

• Communicate with internal and external clients to understand needs and provide appropriate resources and solutions.

• Facilitate warranty/non-warranty claims with clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• A post-secondary degree in Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, or Physics, or equivalent.

Experience:

• This role presents significant technical challenges, requiring a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

• A minimum of three years of experience with machine vision, motion control, and robotics in system design and integration of factory automation projects is essential.

• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language is required, including the development of user interfaces.

• Strong preference will be given to candidates with a proven background in the development of optical, illumination, and machine vision systems.

• Experience in developing image processing algorithms is also preferred.

• The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, demonstrate professionalism, and possess well-developed interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with all levels of client and ATS management in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment under pressure. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary. Candidates must be able to quickly acquire knowledge to troubleshoot systems effectively.

If you are enthusiastic about this role but do not meet all the qualifications listed above, you are still encouraged to apply.
