Custodial Support Staff

Job Summary:
The Salvation Army is seeking a Part Time Weekend Custodian to join our team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our staff and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and monitor preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommending repairs and purchases as required.
- Report safety concerns and major repair issues to the supervisor.
- Ensure the general upkeep of the facility, including cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collecting and disposing of garbage, and vacuuming.
- Check, clean, move, arrange, and dust furniture as required.
- Ensure the general upkeep of external property, including keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, and watering.
- Check doors and windows to ensure building and resident security, providing access to the facility and securing it as needed.
- Restock washroom supplies and distribute received material as required.
- Spot wash accessible walls and shampoo carpets as required.
- Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial, front line, and kitchen staff use, ensuring WHMIS compliant labeling.
- Keep a log of all building maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all supplies.
- Refer all resident inquiries to front desk staff or Case Worker.
- Perform other duties as required.
Working Conditions:
This is a permanent part-time position with 8 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor.
Shifts: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday to Sunday
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma.
- Valid WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR certificates.
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract for review and verification.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge:
- More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
