Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Material Planner to join our team at Carfair. As a key member of our Supply Chain department, you will be responsible for leading the Materials Department to World Class standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate planning for materials department to ensure efficient inventory management and accurate forecasting.
  • Coordinate processing of materials to Point of Use (POU) locations by requirement date, ensuring timely delivery and minimizing stockouts.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy and achieving inventory goals, including reducing obsolete inventory and improving stock turnover.
  • Responsible for Material Requirements Planning (MRP), working with MRP messages, and monitoring daily Order Action Summary (OAS) to ensure accurate and timely material planning.
  • Ensure all aspects of the Material Review Board (MRB) process are followed, including accurate implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to release jobs.
  • Monitor, measure, and meet all materials measurements, including discrete job accuracy and maintaining accuracy for 500 series requirements and reject requirements.
  • Drive the reduction of inventory adjustments and ensure accurate implementation of ECOs to release jobs.
  • Responsible for maintaining sub-inventories and coordinating kitting activities from New Flyer in identified suppliers, updating daily kitting reports and lists.
  • Work with capacity planning to identify under/overloads and determine if outsourcing or level loading is required, updating weekly capacity charts.
  • Ensure materials planning in key areas, including making IR process, communication to other plants, monitoring and reducing obsolete inventory to zero, ensuring gateways and blowing alleys are empty at the end of each shift, monitoring and reducing past due demands to zero, reducing negatives to zero, new work order packages are delivered daily, shop orders are released to start day, reviewing daily dispatch list, releasing planned orders to release date, correcting materials in shop order BOM as required, adjusting shop order quantities as needed, ensuring closed jobs are auctioned daily, working shop orders to completion stages.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to keep routing updates.
  • Prepare and publish past due measurement KPIs.
  • Monitor and track parts status prior to and during production build.
  • Attend and participate in department toolbox meetings.
  • Assist in the department, communication, and deployment of policies, guidelines, and tools to ensure success in all processes.
  • Assist the materials team and leadership in achieving the budget in materials, supplies, salary/indirect labor, overtime, and operational expenses.
  • Ensure the accuracy of data entered in the system.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the supply base in support of business objectives.
  • Promote and facilitate lean Manufacturing/5S programs of materials.
  • Assist and participate in cross-training.
  • Ensure compliance to ISO procedures, work instructions, 5Ps, and promote continuous improvement within the department.
  • Assist manufacturing on day-to-day tasks.
Requirements
  • Three plus years of experience in a manufacturing or inventory management role is highly preferred.
  • APICS certification or currently enrolled in the program would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to communicate effectively via phone and email.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and a self-starter that is motivated to achieve tasks within set timelines.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to multitask, ability to adapt to rapid change, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
