ABOUT THIS POSITION

Black & McDonald Limited is expanding its team in Southwest Ontario. We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to establish a strong career foundation. The HVAC Journeyman Technician will be based in Windsor, Ontario, with responsibilities extending to nearby regions.

The primary role of the HVAC Journeyman Technician involves ensuring the effective operation and upkeep of various HVAC systems. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Installation and maintenance of chillers, heat pumps, steam boilers, air handling units, fans, humidifiers, pumps, VAV boxes, motors, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Monitoring, diagnosing, replacing, calibrating, and programming HVAC controls.
  • Changing filters and belts as needed.
  • Updating documentation related to HVAC services, including drawings and specifications.
  • Installing new systems during renovations or modifications as directed by management.
  • Recommending HVAC supply orders.
  • Addressing environmental comfort concerns.
  • Conducting log readings for system performance.
  • Installing wall and ceiling-mounted accessories.
  • Completing preventive and on-demand maintenance tasks, and documenting maintenance records.
  • Adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations, including the use of protective equipment and reporting hazards.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

  • Completion of a recognized HVAC and/or refrigeration certification.
  • Must hold a Journeyperson designation.
  • Valid G1 gas license is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient understanding of building services, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical and mechanical control systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building automation system HVAC control strategies.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail, with the capability to read and interpret blueprints and manuals.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
  • A collaborative team player dedicated to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Physical capability to lift items under 30 kgs and work at various heights.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with JD Edwards or Oracle-based ERP systems.
  • Experience with DSI platform.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Valid G driver's license is necessary.
  • Completion of a vulnerable sector police check.
