ABOUT THIS POSITION
Black & McDonald Limited is expanding its team in Southwest Ontario. We are seeking a motivated and skilled HVAC Journeyman Technician who is eager to establish a robust career foundation. This role is based in Windsor, Ontario, with responsibilities extending to nearby regions.
The HVAC Journeyman Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation and upkeep of various HVAC systems. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing maintenance and servicing on chillers, heat pumps, steam boilers, air handling units, fans, humidifiers, pumps, VAV boxes, motors, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Monitoring, diagnosing, replacing, calibrating, and programming HVAC control systems.
- Changing filters and belts as necessary.
- Updating and maintaining documentation related to HVAC services, including drawings and specifications.
- Installing new systems during renovations or modifications as directed by management.
- Recommending the procurement of HVAC supplies.
- Addressing environmental comfort concerns raised by clients.
- Conducting log readings and maintaining accurate records.
- Installing wall and ceiling-mounted accessories.
- Completing both preventive and reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring accurate entry of maintenance records.
- Adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations, including the proper use of safety equipment and reporting any hazards.
SKILL SET REQUIREMENTS
- Effective communication skills.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
- Completion of a recognized HVAC and/or refrigeration certification.
- Must hold a Journeyperson designation.
- Possession of a valid G1 gas license is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Familiarity with building services, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical/mechanical control systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of HVAC control strategies within building automation systems.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, capable of interpreting blueprints and manuals.
- Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
- A collaborative team player dedicated to maintaining a high-quality work environment.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 30 kgs and work at various heights, including on ladders or scaffolding.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with JD Edwards or Oracle-based ERP systems.
- Familiarity with the DSI platform.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Valid G driver's license.
- Completion of a vulnerable sector police check.
