Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, design, and implement the Company's global data protection framework and governance strategy, tailored to the Company's operations and relevant regulations worldwide.
  • Serve as the primary contact and expert within the organization, playing a crucial role in privacy compliance and advising stakeholders on related inquiries.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the company's data protection framework, policies, and best practices, adhering to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop and execute training initiatives to enhance awareness of data protection and privacy matters among internal teams.
  • Review documentation and provide guidance to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate responses to privacy incidents and breaches, conduct internal audits, and engage with local data protection authorities as necessary.
  • Process requests for access to personal information from individuals.
  • Advise on maintaining records of processing activities.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and vendor due diligence.
  • Assess and monitor the effectiveness of compliance tools and processes, recommending enhancements as needed.
  • Manage special projects as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in a data privacy or compliance role within a multinational organization or reputable law firm.
  • A Degree in Law and membership in the Quebec or Ontario Bar, or a Degree in a related business discipline (e.g., IT) with relevant experience.
  • Membership in the Quebec or Ontario Bar is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of global data privacy laws and the ability to interpret and apply them in Quebec, the U.S., and Europe (GDPR).
  • Certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or similar qualification from a recognized professional association, or the willingness to pursue such certification.
  • Experience in responding to privacy breaches and conducting privacy impact assessments.
  • Able to balance compliance requirements with practical business needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in both French and English is essential.
  • Proven ability to manage large projects as a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in various IT applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and capable of working independently.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally if required.
