Your Role and Responsibilities
- Review, design, and implement the global data protection framework and governance strategy, tailored to the company's operations and relevant regulations worldwide.
- Serve as the primary contact and expert within the organization for privacy compliance, providing guidance to stakeholders on related inquiries.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with the company's data protection policies and best practices, adhering to applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and execute training initiatives to raise awareness of data protection and privacy issues among internal teams.
- Review documentation and advise teams to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Coordinate responses to privacy incidents and breaches, conduct internal audits, and engage with local data protection authorities as necessary.
- Process requests for access to personal information from individuals.
- Advise on maintaining records of processing activities.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and vendor due diligence.
- Measure and monitor the effectiveness of compliance tools and processes, recommending improvements as needed.
- Manage special projects as required.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- 7 to 10 years of experience in a data privacy or compliance role within a multinational organization or reputable law firm.
- A degree in Law and membership in the Quebec or Ontario Bar, or a degree in a related business discipline (e.g., IT) with relevant experience.
- Membership in the Quebec or Ontario Bar is an asset.
- Strong understanding of global data privacy laws, with the ability to interpret and apply them in Quebec, the U.S., and Europe (GDPR).
- Certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or similar qualification from a recognized professional association, or the willingness to pursue such certification.
- Experience in responding to privacy breaches and conducting privacy impact assessments.
- Ability to balance compliance requirements with practical business needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in both French and English.
- Proven ability to manage large projects and work collaboratively as a team player.
- Proficient in various IT applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and capable of working independently.
- Willingness to travel occasionally if required.
