Sustainable Infrastructure Project Consultant

Key Responsibilities
The Sustainable Infrastructure Delivery Consultant plays a crucial role in overseeing project estimation, design, and the complete sales process from initial concept to contract finalization for the project portfolio within the designated Area team. This position is accountable for managing projects within the assigned local region, as directed by the Area General Manager and/or Development Manager. The consultant will assess resource requirements to meet project timelines and monitor workforce levels to ensure alignment with the construction delivery strategy.
This role also involves managing scope changes effectively, ensuring that all modifications are documented promptly and that change orders receive necessary approvals before work commences, in collaboration with the assigned Construction Managers. The consultant will take the lead in developing the project execution plan, project timeline, and budget, representing these elements to clients as required during the pursuit phase. Collaboration with Sales and Engineering teams is essential to secure contracts that are customer-facing. Building and maintaining relationships with customers and subcontractors is a key aspect of this role.
External Engagement
The Sustainable Infrastructure Delivery Consultant is actively engaged in the local contracting community and industry organizations, fostering connections with local subcontractors. A significant responsibility is to uphold high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle, particularly during the Development and transition to Delivery phases.
Internal Collaboration
- Collaborates with Development Team members to establish and maintain a strong market presence.
- Assists the SI Delivery Manager in planning for future resource needs and allocating resources to meet immediate commitments.
- Evaluates development requirements and collaborates with the SI Delivery Manager to assign Construction Managers for early sales support activities, providing insights on vendor selection, scope enhancements, and risk assessments.
- Works closely with the Development Manager in preparing the annual financial operating plan for the project business.
- Aids the Development Manager in ensuring that fiscal year plans are achieved and assists in monthly financial reporting.
Execution Strategy
- Conducts sales support activities early in the audit process to inform vendor selection and scope enhancements.
- Performs cost estimation, project scheduling, and construction management for projects secured by the area team.
- Manages the profitable development of the project portfolio, ensuring accurate estimations and timely project contributions.
- Develops billing schedules and aids the Development team in negotiating favorable terms.
- Communicates project scope and customer expectations to Development and Delivery team members throughout the project lifecycle.
- Plans and schedules development activities related to future delivery, demonstrating knowledge of commercial complexities and negotiation skills.
- Collaborates with Development engineering to assist in the creation of various FIMs (Financial Investment Models).
- Establishes long-term relationships with customers and contractors, influencing customer satisfaction.
- Develops initial project delivery plans and schedules for assigned projects.
- Coordinates with the SI Delivery Manager to secure necessary resources for project delivery.
- Determines the duration of construction resource assignments through preliminary project scheduling.
- Maintains customer engagement throughout the project lifecycle to gather feedback on satisfaction and communicates this feedback to the broader teams.
- Demonstrates leadership by focusing on exceeding customer expectations.
- Effectively communicates project status to the Development Manager as needed.
- Fosters positive working relationships with subcontractors and internal partners across various departments.
- Ensures compliance with legal requirements at all levels.
- Upholds the highest ethical standards in conducting Sustainable Infrastructure business.
- Champions compliance with contracts and codes for all subcontracted work.
- Participates in project post-mortems to leverage feedback for continuous improvement.
- Assists in ensuring proper project setup in management systems, including document storage and team assignments.
- Promotes adherence to safety policies throughout project execution.
Performance Metrics
The Delivery Consultant is accountable for labor estimates, subcontractor estimates, and contributions to the Development Manager's margin objectives for all assigned projects. Key performance indicators include:
- Project Profitability
- Executed Gross Margin
- Project cash flow based on beneficial contract terms
- Utilization of project management tools and resources
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business, or equivalent experience, is required. Candidates should possess ten or more years of progressively responsible operations management experience in the Installation Industry, including five years of direct management experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, are essential. Proficiency in project management software and MS Office applications is required.
