Spiritual Care Manager

Baycrest Hospital seeks a skilled Spiritual Care Manager to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide spiritual support and guidance to our patients, families, and staff.
Job Summary:The Spiritual Care Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing spiritual care programs, providing individual and group counseling, and facilitating life-cycle support. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement spiritual care programs that meet the needs of our patients and families.
- Provide individual and group counseling to patients, families, and staff.
- Facilitate life-cycle support, including end-of-life counseling.
- Participate in and provide expert guidance to our end-of-life/palliative committees.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and coverage for all religious and spiritual care ceremonies.
- Lead religious ceremonies and services, including Shabbat services and High Holiday services.
- Act as a liaison and portal to the broader community for Baycrest, working with external organizations and agencies.
- Ensure standards of practice and competencies are in compliance with professional and religious governing bodies.
- Provide guidance on religion-based organizational matters, including kosher certification and holy days.
- Act as a collaborative and contributory member of Baycrest's ethics committee.
- Completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree program, or equivalent.
- Successful attainment of semicha or similar rabbinic ordination, preferred.
- Clinical Pastoral Education ('CPE') or Pastoral Counselling Education ('PCE') certification or equivalent.
- Membership in good standing in the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, preferred.
- Membership in good standing in Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains, preferred.
- Membership in good standing with a recognized national/international professional rabbinic association, preferred.
- Registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
- 3 years related experience providing spiritual care and chaplaincy services, including at least 3 years' experience in leadership/management capacity.
- Previous experience in a non-profit organization, preferably in a complex healthcare facility, preferred.
- Experience working with seniors and individuals with dementia is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Religious Freedom Act (Ontario).
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, superior written, listening, and presentation communication skills.
- Knowledge of Russian, Hebrew, and/or Yiddish is an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Halacha, the collective body of Jewish law.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of kosher certification, including Kashruth Council of Canada ('COR') or similar.
- Exceptional counseling skills, especially focused on grief counseling.
- Ability to work with multiple faith, cultural, and ethnic groups and familiarity with various religious traditions in addition to Judaism.
