We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our Cardiology Unit at William Osler Health System. As a key member of our inter-professional healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient-focused nursing care to patients with less complex needs and predictable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Safe Nursing Practice: Ensure safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Professional Patient-Centred Care: Provide professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being.
- Cultural Competence: Provide care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment.
- Infection Control: Practice according to infection control and prevention measures.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary.
- Health Teaching: Provide health teaching to patients and families, including thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care in the community.
- Recent Cardiology Experience: Recent cardiology experience within the last five years with a minimum of two years acute medicine experience required.
- Coronary Care 1: Coronary Care 1 required.
- Arrhythmia Interview Quiz: Must pass an arrhythmia interview quiz obtaining an 80% to move onto the interview phase required.
- Cardiology Challenge Exam: Must pass cardiology challenge exam obtaining an 80% within 30 days of hire.
- ECG and Rhythm Interpretation: Recent experience performing 12 lead ECG and/or rhythm interpretation required.
- Additional Skills: Recent experience in care of patients with TPN, NG tubes, chest tubes, wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection, and isolation preferred.
- Registration and Licensure: Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Nursing Knowledge: Sound knowledge of nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
- BCLS: BCLS required.
- Medication Administration: Medication administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills required.
- Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team.
- Patient-Centred Care: Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family-centred care.
- Health Teaching: Demonstrated experience with patient and family health teaching required.
- Leadership and Facilitation: Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills required.
- Customer Service: Demonstrated excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking skills required.
- Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development as it applies to the profession and related field.
- Stress Management: Demonstrated ability to work in a stressful environment.
- Client Safety: Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient care.
- Prioritization and Decision-Making: Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions.
- Physical Assessment: Excellent physical assessment skills required.
- Healthy Work Environment: Ability to promote a healthy work environment and practice excellent client safety guidelines.
- Occupational Health and Safety: Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
