Role Overview
We are looking for a driven individual to become part of our Calgary-based investment team. The Associate will play a vital role in collaborating with Directors and Managing Directors to identify, assess, and execute private equity, fund, and junior debt investments. Key responsibilities include:
- Evaluating direct equity, fund investments, subordinated debt, and special opportunities;
- Contributing to the planning and execution of due diligence processes;
- Developing financial models, including building and adjusting LBO models;
- Preparing investment committee memoranda and related materials;
- Assisting in the negotiation and review of legal documentation;
- Monitoring existing portfolio companies and preparing quarterly valuations;
- Building relationships with Private Equity, Growth Equity, and Venture Capital firms;
- Collaborating with colleagues across BMO Financial Group, Canadian Commercial Banking, and Capital Markets;
- Tracking investment trends, formulating investment theses, and pitching potential investment ideas;
- Supporting special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
The following qualifications are essential:
- 2-4 years of experience in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Fund Investing, Leveraged Finance, Restructuring, Transaction Advisory, or related fields;
- In-depth understanding of capital structure and practical knowledge of principal investing;
- High proficiency in Excel and exceptional financial modeling capabilities;
- Ability to work independently on multiple concurrent transactions with minimal guidance;
- Capability to navigate various industries with a comprehensive understanding of the financing needs of private companies from early to mature stages;
- Experience in a collaborative deal team environment;
- Proactive mindset, maturity, strong sense of ownership, and initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications will be advantageous:
- CFA, CPA, CA, CBV designation, or MBA;
- Experience in conducting due diligence.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $68,000 - $126,000.00
Pay Type: Salaried
The above represents BMO Financial Group's pay range and type. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards. BMO also offers health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
