About the Role:

The Physiotherapist - Long Term Care Specialist will be responsible for providing high-quality physiotherapy services to clients in a long-term care setting. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Care Functions:
    • Conduct thorough assessments of clients to identify their rehabilitation needs and develop personalized care plans.
    • Collaborate with clients, families, and healthcare teams to set and achieve rehabilitation goals.
    • Provide and recommend adaptive equipment and training to support client independence.
    • Offer counseling and education on lifestyle adjustments and self-management techniques.
    • Monitor and evaluate client progress, making adjustments to care plans as needed.
    • Participate in team conferences and maintain open communication with the care team.
  • Administrative Functions:
    • Manage client statistics and attend meetings to discuss progress and challenges.
    • Prepare and monitor the annual budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
    • Develop and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practices.
    • Supervise and mentor employees, volunteers, and rehabilitation assistants to ensure high-quality care.
    • Ensure a safe working environment, conducting regular inspections and reporting hazards.
  • Education Function:
    • Participate in and present at in-service education sessions to share knowledge and best practices.
    • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members about rehabilitation treatments and progress.
  • Professional Responsibilities:
    • Uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and conduct.
    • Contribute to the growth and development of the physiotherapy profession through information exchange and continuing education.
  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Arrange for aids and services through the AADL Program.
    • Communicate effectively with community and healthcare agencies to ensure consistent client care.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia.
  • Client Safety:
    • Prioritize client safety in all aspects of care.
    • Report unsafe activities and educate others on safety techniques.
    • Correct unsafe behaviors observed in clients.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved school of physiotherapy.
  • Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Association of Physiotherapists and the BC College of Physical Therapists in good standing.
  • Experience in a long-term care setting preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and make timely decisions while effectively collaborating with the care team.
