Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct care to patients in our Minimum and Medium Security Units, utilizing your expertise in psychiatric nursing to promote the physical and psychological well-being of our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Care Provision: Provide direct care to patients in accordance with their individual care plans, including administering medication, performing protocols and interventions, and implementing behavior management strategies.
  • Health Information Management: Collect and document patient health care information, maintaining accurate and complete records of nursing observations, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Care Planning: Develop and implement individualized care plans, assessing clinical requirements and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams, maintaining liaison between nurses, physicians, and community resources to ensure continuity of care.
  • Education and Support: Teach and provide guidance to patients, promoting their psychosocial, life, and personal care skills.
  • Environmental Safety: Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff, adhering to established emergency procedures and safety practices.
  • Professional Development: Identify own learning needs, engage in professional development activities, and participate in team meetings and continuing education opportunities.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Experience: One (1) year of recent experience working in a forensic or acute psychiatric hospital setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Current and updated knowledge of changes and developments in the practice of psychiatric nursing, as well as applicable Federal and Provincial legislation.
