Inclusion Support Specialist - Seasonal Programs

Reporting to the Program Supervisor – Inclusion, Program Director – Inclusion, or Community Recreation Coordinator, the Inclusion Support Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that individuals with special needs have a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive experience in our recreation programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging programs tailored to the unique needs of participants with special requirements.
  • Provide attentive care, including assistance with feeding, toileting, clothing changes, and other personal needs.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of all program participants throughout each session.
  • Collaborate in designing and delivering adaptive programming that caters to diverse abilities.
  • Foster open communication and build strong relationships with participants, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Create weekly action plans that effectively address the individual support requirements of each participant.
  • Administer medication as required, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Uphold Town policies and procedures while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Conduct daily site checks to ensure equipment and supplies are readily available and in good condition.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, accidents, or emergencies according to established departmental guidelines.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and promptly, including daily logs, program plans, attendance forms, etc.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent educational background.
  • Minimum of 9 months to 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in program delivery and service provision.
  • Previous experience working with children, youth, or young adults with special needs (personal, professional, or volunteer experience is valued).
  • Strong behavior management skills and the ability to create a positive and supportive environment.
  • A compassionate and respectful approach to providing personal care assistance.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, confident, and approachable demeanor.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification.
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development & Practice certification is an asset.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of inclusion.
