Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communicable Disease Control Nurse Coordinator to join our team at Fraser Health. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong background in public health nursing and a passion for preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and maintain the Communicable Disease Program for Population & Public Health Services within Fraser Health, including identifying problem areas and follow-up of communicable disease concerns and issues.
  • Act as a resource person to all levels of staff in matters related to communicable disease control, providing consultation and guidance on clinical issues and approaches.
  • Identify training needs of staff and develop and implement training programs to enhance their knowledge and skills in communicable disease control.
  • Maintain and update relevant information on laboratory confirmed cases within, and external to, the public health sector, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Participate in coordinating response activities on major and complex disease outbreaks, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate quality assurance standards for the program, maintaining related records and statistics and preparing reports as required.
  • Participate in the development, review, and implementation of regional policies, procedures, and protocols related to communicable disease control, ensuring compliance with local and provincial regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge on preventive health programs and communicable disease issues/trends, both clinically and epidemiologically, and apply this knowledge to inform program development and implementation.
  • Represent Fraser Health Population & Public Health and Communicable Disease Control on provincial, national, and international initiatives, promoting best practices and collaboration.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the FH Immunization Education program for staff and partner agencies, ensuring effective communication and education on immunization practices.
  • Perform other related duties as required, contributing to the overall success of the program and the organization.
Qualifications
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three years recent related public health nursing clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including a working knowledge of local and provincial Communicable Disease Regulations and relevant policies, procedures, and protocols, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class V B.C. Driver's licence and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CD/Immunization practice in the designated clinical area.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the application of word-processing software programs, including database management and presentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to make group presentations and to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to teach and to provide leadership to project teams and staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of research methodology and analysis.
  • Ability to plan, implement, organize, and problem-solve.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
