Job Title: Clinical Nurse Educator, Public Health

Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Educator, Public Health will utilize evidence-informed practice and education theory to develop educational programs that achieve effective outcomes. This role will deliver formal group or individual educational activities to staff and patients/clients/residents/families, and participate in research, policy, quality improvement, and risk management activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine education priorities that meet clinical and learner needs, in collaboration with the Manager/Director.
  • Develop and revise educational programs based on clinical evidence, policy, literature, and education theory.
  • Create supportive and interprofessional learning environments, utilizing education theory and building strong professional relationships with learners.
  • Deliver learner-centered education to individual or groups of staff and patients/clients/residents/families through various methods.
  • Evaluate education program effectiveness by measuring outcomes, determining whether clinical objectives have been achieved, and assessing whether learning has occurred.
  • Collaborate with other practice leaders to provide leadership, consultation, and performance support to clinical staff, employed student nurses, and students.
  • Support staff to plan and carry out patient/client/resident/family education about discharge planning, illness prevention, and health maintenance.
  • Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities, such as evaluating the effect of changes in practice, generating recommendations for alternative approaches, conducting safety audits, and implementing teaching/learning when required.
  • Participate in research and special projects, promoting staff awareness and involvement in research activities.

Qualifications:

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three years of recent related public health nursing clinical experience in the designated clinical area, including one year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of postgraduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area.
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.

  • Ability to foster effective teaching and learning relationships.
  • Ability to facilitate learning and create effective learning environments.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders in preparing appropriate learner environments.
  • Ability to develop and utilize appropriate practice assessment tools.
  • Ability to develop and deliver teaching/learning modalities and education materials that promote best practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide leadership and work direction in a coaching/mentoring role.
  • Ability to work independently in an organized and self-directed manner.
  • Ability to problem-solve and effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Ability to conceptualize education from a unit to regional focus.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
