Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Traffic Assessment Investigator to join our team in the Public Works Department. As a key member of our Road Safety & Traffic Investigations unit, you will play a critical role in coordinating and directing traffic investigations, collecting and analyzing traffic field data, and developing procedures to enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations of complaints and requests concerning traffic safety, congestion, parking, and vehicular conflict problems.
  • Collect, summarize, and verify pertinent traffic data through conducting traffic surveys, preparing sketches, taking photographs, and field measurements of problem locations.
  • Interview complainants and other involved parties to gather additional information and submit completed traffic assessment assignments for review and approval.
  • Develop and implement procedures to enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians through the continuous review of evolving traffic and collision patterns.
  • Manage the implementation, monitoring, assessment, refinement, and development of installation criteria for traffic control devices and safety initiatives.
Requirements
  • Completion of a 2-year technical diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or other engineering-related course.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in traffic investigations, traffic operations, and transportation engineering or an equivalent transportation-related field.
  • Strong knowledge of data collection and research techniques, computer operations, and applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to work and contribute in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work individually, and follow instructions with minimum supervision.
  • Valid Ontario unrestricted G-class driver's license with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated.
