Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

As the Senior Director of Commercial Financial Services (CFS) Finance, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team of credit specialists focused on our substantial commercial client segment within CFS, which encompasses businesses with annual revenues ranging from $25 million to $100 million. Your leadership will be pivotal in achieving our strategic growth targets through the effective structuring, execution, and oversight of credit solutions for a select group of large commercial clients. You will oversee the complete credit relationship for your assigned portfolio, emphasizing loan origination and maintaining high standards of portfolio quality. Your role will significantly enhance the client experience by delivering exceptional business, financial, and credit guidance directly to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with client relationship managers to structure, finalize, and oversee loan transactions, including preparing credit submissions for Group Risk Management (GRM) and presenting transactions to clients.
  • Collaborate with client relationship managers to prepare and deliver compelling credit presentations that effectively communicate the benefits and advantages of proposed credit solutions to both existing and prospective clients.
  • Showcase RBC's ability to provide tailored and innovative credit solutions promptly, ensuring that our offerings align with and exceed client expectations.
  • Oversee all facets of the credit approval process, including ComCom and GRM, while fostering strong relationships with National Office personnel and risk management teams.
  • Proactively develop and strengthen client relationships, engaging with key RBC partners such as Group Risk Management, Private Banking, and Corporate Client Group.
  • Exercise diligence in recommending credit applications, collaborating with Risk Management to ensure compliance with risk processes and guidelines while balancing credit risk with structural mitigants.
  • Maintain oversight of portfolio quality through proactive management, including annual credit renewals and covenant monitoring.

Qualifications for Success

Essential Requirements:

  • Demonstrated success in financial and credit analysis, supporting superior client relationship management.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in commercial lending within a major financial institution.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance, complemented by strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical capabilities, along with proficiency in analyzing financial statements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with emerging technologies and communication tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail in both documentation and financial analysis.
  • Strong organizational abilities, capable of thriving under pressure while managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required to effectively serve our diverse client base.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, CPA, or CFA designation.
  • Experience in corporate lending or corporate finance.
  • Background in credit and accounting with the ability to navigate complex concepts.
