About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Cost Estimating Lead to join our team at CB Canada. As a key member of our project management team, you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and communication of cost estimating procedures, systems, and tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement cost estimating procedures, systems, and tools to ensure accurate and reliable cost estimates.
  • Lead the development of cost estimates for major infrastructure projects, ensuring that they are robust, realistic, and well-documented.
  • Review and sign off on project cost estimates as part of the stage gate process.
  • Design and deliver training programs to enable project teams to adopt cost estimating best practices.
  • Ensure that project scope, cost estimates, and execution strategies are aligned.
  • Participate in quantitative risk assessments to support integrated cost and schedule contingency processes.
  • Validate cost estimates using personal and industry experience, identifying potential out-of-range values and applying corrective actions when necessary.
  • Review contractor prices at bid, during negotiation, and on high-value claims.
  • Plan and participate in contractor cost estimates kick-off meetings to establish deliverables, formats, WBS, and cost estimate review schedules.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or diploma in a relevant business or engineering discipline, with 15 years of experience on major infrastructure projects (values greater than $1B).
  • Sufficient depth in cost estimating expertise to develop best practice procedures, be credible when reviewing sophisticated estimates developed by others, including bids and claims submitted by contractors.
  • Presentation skills to communicate complex concepts and persuade others, either internally or in high-value claim negotiation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view or way of doing things.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships with internal and external contacts under complex and time-sensitive circumstances.
  • Ability to work under broad direction and use significant independent judgment to problem-solve when more than one option is possible.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, work with minimal supervision, and effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and guide others while enhancing individual and team effectiveness.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project. Experience using advanced analytic tools such as Power BI would be an asset.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's license.
