We are seeking a Senior Cost Estimating Lead to act as the Subject Matter Expert for Cost Estimating and lead the development, implementation, communication, and training of Project Estimating procedures, systems, and tools. The successful candidate will ensure that robust, realistic, and well-documented cost estimates are developed for all projects and developed by qualified cost estimators.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement cost estimating procedures, systems, and tools.
- Review and sign off on project cost estimates as part of the stage gate process.
- Design training programs to enable project adoption within the major projects.
- Ensure alignment between the cost estimate, project schedule, and execution strategy.
- Participate actively in the Quantitative Risk Assessment to support the integrated cost and schedule contingency process.
- Validate cost estimates using personal and industry experience, identifying potential out-of-range values and applying corrective actions when necessary.
- Review contractor prices at bid, during negotiation, and on high-value claims.
- Plan and participate in Contractor's cost estimates kick-off meeting to establish all deliverables, including formats, WBS, and cost estimate review schedule.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or diploma in a relevant business or engineering discipline, with 15 years of experience on major infrastructure projects (values greater than $1B). The candidate must have sufficient depth in cost estimating expertise to develop best practice procedures, be credible when reviewing sophisticated estimates developed by others, including bids and claims submitted by contractors.
The successful candidate will also have excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including letter, report writing, and presentation skills. They will be able to explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view or way of doing things.
The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships with internal and external contacts under circumstances that are considerably complex and time-sensitive. They will be able to work in a team-oriented work environment and deal effectively with disagreements and prevent the escalation of conflict.
The ideal candidate will also have the ability to work under broad direction and use significant independent judgment to problem-solve when more than one option is possible. They will be able to take initiative, work with minimal supervision, and effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.
