Position Overview

The Grocery Department Manager is accountable for achieving all departmental and store objectives as outlined by the Store Manager. This role involves overseeing daily operations within the department, including inventory management, product presentation, workforce scheduling, and customer engagement. Responsibilities must be executed in alignment with the principles of the Farm Boy Way, ensuring quality service for all employees, customers, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver outstanding customer service while supporting Farm Boy's vision of the premier fresh shopping experience. Collaborate with the Store Manager and Retail Specialist to implement strategies that successfully meet established financial targets. Foster team development through interviewing, training, performance reviews, coaching, motivation, and recognition, while upholding confidentiality and trust. Maintain consistent and effective communication to guide the team, including individual coaching, team meetings, performance metrics, product knowledge, and adherence to corporate policies. Oversee retail operations and deliverables, including inventory management, ordering, product maintenance, quality control, shrink management, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll. Participate in store coverage rotation as a Manager on Duty, which may include opening and closing the store and serving as the emergency contact for the alarm system. Ensure compliance with Safe Food Handling regulations and Health and Safety policies. May be required to perform additional related duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

Typically requires completion of a post-secondary program with a focus on business, along with a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful completion of a Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve, and Level A First Aid and Basic CPR certification, or the commitment to complete these within 6 months. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Good judgment and decision-making abilities when interacting with customers and team members. Ability to learn and utilize manual and automated systems/tools. Proficient in working in a fast-paced environment while managing priorities and maintaining high performance standards. Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Fluency in English and French is considered an asset.

Work Environment:

Provide service to multiple individuals or departments while managing several simultaneous deadlines. Required to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts. Must be able to lift, carry, or handle heavy items.
