Position Overview

Company Overview:

Join a dynamic and skilled engineering team at Hitachi Energy Canada Inc., specializing in the transformer repair and service sector.

As a Senior Electrical Transformer Engineer, you will engage in a variety of electrical engineering responsibilities, including analysis, design, development, testing, installation, and maintenance, utilizing specifications, drawings, proposals, and other relevant documentation.

This role is based in Stoney Creek, ON, and you will report directly to the engineering manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute comprehensive electrical designs for the refurbishment of transformers ranging from 10 to 1000 MVA, including those of legacy technologies such as ABB, GE, Westinghouse, or ASEA, as well as industrial transformers.
  • Conduct engineering design evaluations (thermal, dielectric) on existing transformers and offer technical assistance for field service operations.
  • Organize and oversee engineering analyses and testing procedures, compiling related reports and summaries for review.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering team to ensure project success.
  • Provide support to the transformer repair facility and participate in on-site transformer assessments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • P. Eng. designation is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transformer design.
  • Experience in designing special transformers (furnace, rectifier, shell) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Hitachi Energy electrical design tools and standards or equivalent.
  • Proficient in transformer electrical design calculations.
  • Competent in using computer software, particularly MS Office.
  • Proven ability to work independently with strong planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop solutions for technical challenges.
  • Compliance with Hitachi Training Requirement Matrix.
