About the Opportunity
The City of St. Albert is seeking a skilled GIS Technician to join our Information Technology Services department. As a key member of our Spatial Data and Applications Team, you will be responsible for performing data capture, updates, and maintenance to support the City's corporate GIS functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Mapping Services: Provide high-quality mapping services to support the City's operations.
- Enterprise GIS Data Creation & Maintenance: Create, update, and maintain enterprise GIS data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Web & Mobile Application Support: Develop and maintain web and mobile applications to support GIS data visualization and analysis.
- GIS Service Desk Support: Provide technical support to GIS users and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Supporting Emergency Services: Prepare and update data for utilization by emergency services, including 9-1-1, dispatch, and maps.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or a related discipline with two years of experience, or a post-secondary diploma in Geographic Information Systems or Geography with four years of experience in Esri ArcGIS.
- Experience and fluency in ESRI products, including editing data, performing analysis, and producing maps, preferably in government operations.
- Hands-on experience gathering requirements, preparing, and updating high-quality maps.
- Comprehensive knowledge of spatial data maintenance, including creating, updating, quality checking, and metadata. Experience working with imagery is preferred.
- Working knowledge of web mapping applications for mobile data collection and update, including gathering requirements, design, implementation, training, and support.
- Sound communication skills and a focus on customer service excellence.
Working Conditions
- This is a term position from September 2024 through March 2025.
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
