Senior Actuarial Analyst/Actuarial Consultant - Commercial

Compensation: At Wawanesa, salary is just one aspect of a comprehensive and competitive benefits package we offer to our employees. The salary for this role is determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labor market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity, and your knowledge, skills, experience, and anticipated proficiency in the role. The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000 - $140,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of this range are still encouraged to apply.

The Farm Pricing team plays a vital role in achieving the financial objectives of farm insurance at Wawanesa on a national scale. With a solid understanding of ratemaking principles, the Senior Actuarial Analyst or Actuarial Consultant will be responsible for developing farm insurance rating strategies, enhancing segmentation, uncovering business insights, and collaborating with our business partners to fulfill strategic priorities.

We are open to hiring at either the Senior Actuarial Analyst or Actuarial Consultant level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pricing indication and segmentation analysis on personal and commercial farm business to assess rate adequacy and risk quality. Formulate and integrate underwriting and regional business recommendations.
  • Innovate in designing rate review methodologies to enhance pricing sophistication.
  • Collect and utilize internal and external data to improve pricing segmentation.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and the effectiveness of underwriting strategies; proactively share insights and recommend solutions.
  • Effectively communicate pricing analyses and recommendations to diverse audiences, including leadership teams, underwriters, and brokers.
  • Mentor junior analysts on technical skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Completion of 4 or more CAS exams; ACAS designation is a plus.
  • Three or more years of experience in P&C actuarial roles preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and initiate actions.
  • Proficient in Excel, SQL, R, Python, and/or other relevant software/programming languages/actuarial software.
  • Experience with WTW Radar and Emblem is advantageous.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in analysis with minimal technical errors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
