Family Law Paralegal/Legal Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Family Law Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our team at GPAC. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work closely with lawyers on substantive legal work as a paralegal, while also managing administrative tasks as a legal assistant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Paralegal Responsibilities:
    • Draft and prepare legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, financial statements, and court applications.
    • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare summaries for lawyer review.
    • Assist in the preparation for mediations, hearings, and trials, including preparing binders, exhibits, and disclosure packages.
    • Manage client files and maintain strict confidentiality of case information.
    • Monitor and ensure deadlines and court orders are met, including family law court filing deadlines.
  • Legal Assistant Responsibilities:
    • Manage lawyer calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings with clients and other parties.
    • Draft and send client correspondence, emails, and letters.
    • Handle client billing, time entry, and manage expense reports.
    • Open, organize, and maintain electronic and physical client files.
    • Handle phone calls, voicemails, and inquiries from clients with a professional and client-focused demeanor.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a recognized Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal diploma program.
  • 3+ years of experience working as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant, with a preference for family law experience.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with Amicus Attorney or Clio would be considered an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an attention to detail in drafting and document review.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a team-oriented mindset.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to client service, understanding the sensitive nature of family law matters.
