Deaf/Blind Student Support Specialist

About the Role

As a Deaf/Blind Intervenor, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational journey of students with deaf/blindness. You will act as a bridge between the student and their learning environment, ensuring they have access to information and can fully participate in classroom activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate effective communication between a deaf/blind student and their teachers and peers.
  • Interpret information presented verbally, visually, or through other mediums for the student.
  • Provide assistance with academic instruction and deliver alternative curriculum tailored to the needs of deaf/blind students.
  • Utilize assistive technologies to enhance the learning experience for the student.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possess a two-year Community College Diploma in a related field, coupled with two years of experience working with deaf/blind students.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using assistive technologies to support student learning.
  • Exhibit expertise in various alternative forms of communication.

Essential Language Skills

  • American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Braille (EBAE uncontracted and contracted braille, UEB uncontracted and contracted braille)
  • Total Communication
