About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Group Lead to join our Commercial Banking team at Scotiabank. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Client Service Associates and providing guidance and support to Client Relationship Managers in Mid-Market.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Focus

Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  1. Credit Proposal Review

Provide advice and counsel to Client Relationship Managers in Mid-Market on the presentation of credit proposals, including coaching, prompt feedback, and sound guidance on structuring deals.

  1. Credit Portfolio Oversight

Ensure the ongoing quality of the credit portfolio by providing oversight to the team on various aspects, such as early identification of problem loans, appropriateness of risk ratings, timeliness of annual reviews, and reporting requirements.

  1. Team Management

Manage a team of Client Service Associates in Mid-Market, providing timely performance feedback and developing the skills of the team through coaching and guidance.

  1. Training and Development

Train on credit and operational skills and assist in the delivery of various training programs to ensure continual learning opportunities for the team.

  1. Business Development

Contribute to business development opportunities by identifying and recommending referral opportunities and possible cross-sell options to Client Relationship Managers in Mid-Market.

  1. Operational Risk Management

Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions, and actively pursue effective and efficient operations of the team.

  1. High-Performance Environment

Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

Requirements
  1. Education

University degree with a business background, MBA or professional designation preferred.

  1. Experience

5+ years of experience in the Commercial banking industry.

  1. Skills

Thorough knowledge of Commercial Banking Distribution structure, role of other groups within Commercial Banking, experienced lender with strong overall credit skills and sales skills, strong knowledge of credit structures and applicable risk management, superior coaching and proven people management skills, excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, good negotiation and problem resolution skills, excellent communication skills both written and oral, strong regulatory and compliance knowledge, strong organizational skills, good knowledge of competitor offerings, alternative sources of financing, and industry knowledge.

Language Requirements

Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English in addition to French, as they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English, report to a manager from head office who is an English speaker, and/or serve an English-speaking clientele.
