Position Overview:

The Public Policy Specialist plays a crucial role in the coordination and execution of the Corporate Policy & Procedure Program. Key responsibilities encompass the research, formulation, assessment, development, communication, and upkeep of Council and Corporate policies and procedures.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • A degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and critical thinking skills, coupled with effective reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Additional education and experience in local governance and leadership are advantageous.
  • Exceptional leadership skills and the capacity to collaborate with elected officials, senior management, and departmental professionals.
  • Advanced proficiency in the following areas:
    • Proven ability to cultivate and sustain effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Competence in facilitating collaborative solutions.
    • Problem-solving abilities, creativity in idea generation, and decision-making skills. Capability to work under pressure and prioritize competing projects.
    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Candidates must demonstrate:
    • Proficiency in managing responsibilities and workload efficiently through self-initiative.
    • Strong command of business English, including spelling, punctuation, and composition.
    • Sound judgment in managing multiple tasks simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines.
    • The ability to communicate effectively and courteously, providing quality service when interacting with City officials, senior management, and staff.
    • A proven track record of recognizing, understanding, and contributing to team objectives.

Union Affiliation:

Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417

Compensation:

$43.29 to $45.57 per hour.

Work Schedule:

75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.
