About the Role:
The Canadian Red Cross is seeking a highly skilled Intervention Specialist to join our team. As an Intervention Specialist, you will provide support to individuals affected by a traumatic event through our customized follow-up approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide empathetic support to individuals in need, respecting their confidentiality and taking note of their experiences, needs, and challenges following the traumatic event.
- Document immediate, short-term, and long-term needs of the individual, using the information gathered and evaluating relevant services that may be offered in this context.
- Present appropriate solutions and services to address essential needs, such as referrals, financial assistance, recovery planning services, etc.
- Define the individual's needs, strengths, vulnerabilities, and capacities, and work collaboratively with them to develop a plan that supports their recovery process following the traumatic event.
- Plan follow-up meetings with the individual to check in and ensure they are aware of the next steps after each interaction.
Teamwork:
- Contribute to creating a safe and secure work environment and spaces to support diverse populations.
- Identify emerging trends related to defined capacities and needs, and communicate them to the Customized Follow-up and Operations teams as necessary.
- Adhere strictly to established procedures and processes with attention to detail, including forwarding complex files or those requiring renovation or repair to competent experts.
Requirements:
- Hold a diploma in a related field and one to three years of work experience in customer service, customized follow-up, disaster recovery, health services, etc. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Knowledge or experience in customer service, disaster recovery, emergency management, community development, social work, or psychology (or analogous professions) is an asset.
- Experience working in emergency situations is an asset.
- Understanding of the Red Cross's role in emergency interventions and the recovery process is an asset.
- Experience using database systems is required; experience using SIGU is an asset.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint) and Adobe is required.
- Hold a valid first aid certification or be willing to take this training.
- Hold a valid certification in psychological first aid or be willing to take this training.
- Language requirements: Ability to read, write, and provide services in French or English, as needed during the operation. Knowledge of another language is an asset.
Work Conditions:
- Most work is done in a clean and comfortable environment.
- The selected candidate may need to intervene in disaster zones and in difficult, unstable (environmental, physical, social, etc.), and uncomfortable conditions (noise, smell, smoke, humidity) among people in need. This stressful environment, which evolves at a rapid pace, typically provides little information for decision-making and can have physical and psychological effects on field workers.
- In the event of field work, health and safety considerations will be presented to the candidate before the start of their mandate.
- The individual must be able to work irregular hours (late evening or weekends) and perform long hours of work in a demanding context.
- They must also be able to participate in interventions within their community (at least three days) and outside of it (at least ten days).
