As an integral part of The Salvation Army's mission to spread the love of Jesus Christ and address human needs, every role plays a vital part in the spiritual and social service objectives of the organization. It is essential that all interactions with clients and colleagues reflect the Christian values and principles upheld by The Salvation Army.
Qualifications:
Completion of a two-year College Diploma or University Degree in human or social services is mandatory. Additionally, certification in First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is required, or the willingness to obtain these certifications.
Experience and Knowledge:
Experience in working with diverse populations, particularly those facing mental health and addiction challenges, is essential. Candidates should possess an understanding of the unique social and economic barriers within the shelter system and be knowledgeable about referral sources and other social service organizations.
Skills and Abilities:
- Crisis intervention skills are highly valued.
- Strong judgment and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with the Housing First philosophy and issues surrounding housing stability for vulnerable groups.
- A compassionate, strength-based approach to client interactions.
- Proficient computer and clerical skills, including document management and database navigation.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
- Successful completion of necessary background checks as required by The Salvation Army.
