Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wastewater Collection Foreman to join our team at the City of Calgary. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of our sanitary and storm lift stations, force mains, and odor control sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform lift station operation and maintenance, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Provide emergency response during lift station failure, flooding, and power outages, prioritizing public safety and minimizing disruptions.
  • Deploy and operate portable Emergency Lift Station (ELS) equipment as needed, ensuring timely and effective response to emergencies.
  • Operate and maintain odor control sites, minimizing environmental impact and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of air valves and Chestermere force main, identifying and addressing potential issues before they become major problems.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal clients and the citizens of Calgary, responding to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support the development and performance of Lift Stations Pump Operators, providing training and coaching as needed to ensure they have the skills and knowledge required to excel in their roles.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for lift station staff, adhering to all relevant health and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assign work and oversee the performance of subordinates, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Requirements
  • A High School diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Level 1 Wastewater Collection Operator, certified by Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP).
  • At least 4 years of experience working with wastewater collection, with a strong understanding of lift station operations and maintenance.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License, with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from AEP, or the ability to attain it within 1 year of employment.
  • Lift Station Design or Pump Design courses would be considered an asset, as would experience working with lift stations and plumbing/electrical/mechanical systems.
Working Conditions

This position may be exposed to odours, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dampness, untreated wastewater, and fumes. A portion of work is performed in an office environment.
