Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wastewater Collection Foreman to join our team at the City of Calgary. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of our sanitary and storm lift stations, force mains, and odor control sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform lift station operation and maintenance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide emergency response during lift station failure, flooding, and power outages, prioritizing the safety of our citizens and employees.
  • Deploy and operate portable Emergency Lift Station (ELS) equipment as needed.
  • Operate and maintain odor control sites, minimizing the impact of wastewater odors on our community.
  • Inspect and maintain air valves and Chestermere force main, ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal clients and citizens of Calgary, responding to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support the development and performance of Lift Stations Pump Operators, including training and coaching.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for lift station staff, adhering to all relevant health and safety protocols.
  • Assign work and oversee the performance of subordinates, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective time management.
Requirements
  • A High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Level 1 Wastewater Collection Operator.
  • At least 4 years of experience working with wastewater collection, with a strong understanding of lift station operations and maintenance.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) or the ability to attain it within 1 year of employment.
  • Lift Station Design or Pump Design courses would be considered an asset.
  • Lift Station experience and plumbing/electrical/mechanical experience would be considered assets.
Working Conditions

This position may be exposed to odours, extreme temperatures, loud noises, dampness, untreated wastewater, and fumes. A portion of work is performed in an office environment.
