At the City of Calgary, we are committed to delivering exceptional services to our community. As an Industrial Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality of our waterways.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze wastewater samples from various locations throughout the city.
  • Prepare samples for submission to the Water Quality and Regulatory Assurance lab.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment such as autosamplers and laboratory equipment.
  • Provide information to customers regarding the surcharge program.
  • Maintain accurate records of data entry and compilation of results.
  • Participate in wastewater and compliance monitoring projects as directed by the Team Lead.
Qualifications:
  • A completed 2-year diploma in Chemical or Environmental Technology or a related degree in Environmental science or Chemistry.
  • At least 3 years of experience in environmental and wastewater sampling, including lab and computer work related to wastewater characterization and field instrumentation.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Registration with The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) as a Certified Engineering Technologist or as a Registered Engineering Technologist (RET) or equivalent will be considered an asset.
Working Conditions:

This position requires working in locations that may be physically demanding, including walking, climbing, and carrying moderately heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to work in the field in all types of weather conditions and may be exposed to dust, noise, odors, and hazardous chemicals.
