Our Department of Natural Resources & Renewables is responsible for the development, management, conservation, and protection of forest, mineral, parks, and wildlife resources, as well as the administration of the province's Crown land.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Mineral Management to join our team. As a key member of our Geoscience and Mines Branch, you will be responsible for strategic planning, direction, and administration of provincial legislation, regulations, policies, and programs related to the development of Nova Scotia's mineral resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Executive Director and/or Minister on issues related to mining, mineral tenure, and regulatory processes in Nova Scotia.
  • Lead and manage the implementation of regulatory requirements, and direct the activity of the Registry of Mineral and Petroleum Titles.
  • Effectively lead a team, maintain internal communications, monitor revenues and expenditures, and accurately forecast and report budget requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government and mining industry partners to encourage the use of best practices in mineral exploration and mining.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must hold a bachelor's or graduate degree in Engineering or Science in a relevant discipline, such as mining, geotechnical, geological, metallurgical, civil, or geoscience. You must also be eligible for registration with Engineers of Nova Scotia or the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Nova Scotia.

You must have extensive experience in mining industry operations, a government organization responsible for administration or regulation of the mining industry, or a mining-related organization. You must be familiar with Nova Scotia's and Canada's mineral industries, current trends and issues in mining, minerals engineering, and geoscience, and the role of government in administration of minerals programs in a societal context.
