Field Service Mechanic for Surface Mining Equipment

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is in search of a Field Service Technician specializing in Surface Mining Equipment.

We are currently on the lookout for a Field Service Technician. This role entails diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the mechanical and/or electrical components of surface mining machinery, adhering to established specifications. The position also includes the commissioning of new machinery and providing training at client locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine machinery to ensure optimal performance and identify any defects or failures.
  • Adjust and repair or replace malfunctioning components or systems to restore machinery to original manufacturing standards.
  • Confirm the proper operation of repaired machinery.
  • Commission new machinery.
  • Manage the inventory of service vehicles and ensure their upkeep.
  • Accurately complete time sheets, technical documentation, failure reports, and parts inventories.
  • Stay informed about industry advancements, customer needs, products, and best technical practices.
  • Perform additional assigned duties as required.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safety policies, regulations, and relevant government, client, or industry standards.
  • Identify and report any unsafe work practices, workplace incidents, or near misses. Conduct a 'Take 5' risk assessment prior to each task.
  • Maintain hand tools and equipment for safe usage.
  • Keep a clean workspace and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in environmental, health, and safety training programs.
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) for each task.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certification in a relevant field (mechanical/electrical) or equivalent experience as a heavy machinery mechanic.
  • Red Seal certification, if applicable.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience with surface mining machinery.
  • Ability to communicate in both French and English is an asset.
  • Prior experience with Sandvik machinery or products is a plus.
  • Capability to interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical issues on mining equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and experience with Microsoft software.
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with a willingness to travel to mining sites across Canada as necessary.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed.
